Winter Update — January 28, 2015

> United Way Perth Huron Transportation Task Force: As follow-up to the Stakeholders’ meeting in October, the Task Force is exploring the concept of corridor buses, to bring residents of outlying communities who have no public transportation options into communities offering services and connections. These services could be medical, social to maintain support networks, or connection to other means of public transportation. A targeted survey is being assessed.

> SWOTA: The Southwest Ontario Transportation Alliance has continued to move forward in research and advocacy, with transportation contacts being made by individual member groups and by the group as a whole. A current initiative is the NETWORK SOUTHWEST Public Forum series, with all member groups in partnership. The Stratford Public Forum will take place Thursday, February 12, 2015.

> Upcoming February 17, 2015: A delegation from CFUW Stratford will be meeting with Yves Desjardins-Siciliano, VIA Rail President and Chief Executive Officer. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss Stratford public transportation concerns and proposed solutions.

> January 24, 2015: CFUW Ontario Council Legislation Chair Sheila Lacroix designated Public Transportation as the theme for the winter CFUW Ontario Standing Committee Meetings. These meetings are attended by CFUW delegates throughout Ontario. Two speakers addressed the gathering in the morning: Chris Burke Director of Policy and Planning, Metrolinx, and Peter Miasek, President, Transport Action Ontario (TAO), followed by afternoon workshops. The Legislation workshop explored existing public transportation needs in areas in and beyond the GTHA, as well as potential advocates and advocacy strategies. CFUW Stratford members gave an overview of the GettingThere.ca project to date, successes and opportunities, and led the afternoon discussions.
